My life of FAIL

Things that are disappointing me right now:

1. My immune system. Whatever the IT guy gave me has taken over my lungs and although I'm not coughing badly, my chest feels really tight and the lack of oxygen is giving me a headache.

2. The results of America's Next Top Model. I was so Team Analeigh. I'm not upset by McKey's winning, I guess, because she is a really good model, but I liked Analeigh. She was sweet and unassuming, but also interesting to look at.

3. The results of the National Book Award for Young People's Literature. When I saw the nominees, I knew immediately that What I Saw and How I Lied was by far the weakest of the bunch, and I'm stunned that it was honored over the wonderful Chains and The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks. It's not the worst book I've read this year, but I did have a lot of problems with it. I found the main character's obsession with her mother's beauty not sweet but creepy, like the mother was a Cullen or something. I found the main character's naivete annoying rather than endearing. I know said naivete was the point of the book, but that doesn't mean I had to like it. Overall, the book lacked the tight plotting and quality characterization of the other nominees I've read. But oh well. Next year it'll be MY turn to give the awards.

4. The fact that no matter how bad the Twilight movie is, it's going to make millions. Personally, I'm making Mr. Cedar take me to see Quantum of Solace. I really hope Quantum of Solace keeps its #1 spot, because with the way this week has been going I can already seen the "Teen Vampire Book kills James Bond at the Box Office" headlines. And those will make me throw things. Look, I'm glad there's this much hype over a book, I really am. I just wish the hype was over a good book. There are so many great YA books that go unnoticed and for something as poorly written as Twilight to make such a splash, well, it boggles.

5. My cable company. This is the second time in a week something's gone wrong with our service.

On the bright side, I have tickets to see Shinedown in the very near future and Ma Cedar records all the shows I miss and sends me the DVDs.
