I wrote an e-mail to the Ultmate Warrior a while back which said this.
I started to watch the WWE video that someone posted on the internet, and I learned some interesting things. I learned that my two favorite wrestlers from the 80's and 90's, being yourself and your former tag team partner Sting, started out together. I can honestly say that for the longest time, Sting and you both seemed to follow the same, which is why I liked him as well. Neither of you let anyone dictate your path, you stood on your own beliefs and own power. This is what I loved about you and sting before he fell off the path and went with the full face paint and the darker look.
In all honesty, the "Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior" could have been the best to happen to you, because it let you walk away before the business beat you down to the point where Hogan ended up. I can honestly respect your decision to leave wrestling and going on to bigger and better things was the right decision, and I just wish others in the industry would do the same, instead of tearing themselves apart in the ring for peanuts.
I am glad to hear you are happily married and that your kids aren't going to follow in their dad's footsteps and go into the wrestling business. All in all, your live outside the ring and your persona inside the ring are totally different, and I think looking at your in ring persona, and I hate to bring up the comic as well, that is the only part of the picture that people look at.
Thank you for listening, and Always Believe,
Bryan Gardner
I will be the first to admit, I didn't expect to get a reply back from him. I then lost internet access for 2 weeks, and going through my e-mail, I found a reply from Mr, Warrior.
Bryan, hello. Thanks for taking the time to write and comment.
The DVD was not the reason I walked away from the business. I was already out of the business, by my own choice, before the DVD was produced. For many reasons, long before the DVD came out, I was already of mind and character to realize that continuing in the business was not going to inspire me anymore. And the DVD was made out of spite for the fact that I did decide to move on in my life and leave the business behind, not depend on it or ask anything more from it. Independence and integrity like that are despised.
You are right about one thing. If you succeed in an one-of-a-kind way, it is certain that you will be most known and remembered for doing that thing, and, for some weird reason, others will believe you are not capable of doing anything else. It's been an interesting life lesson to learn. I've never thought, of myself or others, that I could only do one thing or not do many other things. My justification has always been simple. I am human being and I have a mind and the power to choose.
I am happy and productive because I work at being happy and productive. I take nothing for granted and success in life does not fall from the sky.
Always Believe,
Warrior
Now considering he is a former Celebrity, I am amazed that he actually does sit down and read his email and he actually responded to me. I just felt like sharign this with everyone, if they wanted to read it.
