ARRRGGGGHHHH. T_T CECIIiiii.... T___T
Next thing you know, you might be pouring ethidium bromide on yourself, or "accidentally" stabbing yourself with a syringe filled with gene arrays...T___T
Added to the fact that considering how all autoclave doors are designed to open down (for the exact reason you mentioned), I don't even see how you could've managed to steam your wrist...T_T; unless you decided to open the autoclave with one hand (they say one reason they make autoclave doors heavy is that so people don't try doing this) while having one hand placed above the autoclave door or something...>_>;
But anyway, gas and liquid burns often hurt a lot, because it contacts a large area of skin and stimulates a large number of pain receptors. Well, at least thank goodness you didn't...steam your face or something. T__T; Burns, if occuring in only a small area, aren't lethal. But there are a lot worse things that could happen working in a lab, so watch out. >_>
And as of the sugar-sprinkled Texas doughnut, it wasn't the sugar that wasa affecting your brain, it was the Texas. XD *cough*GeorgeWBush*cough*

The autoclave I use is stupid and the door opens UP. T____T It's a small autoclave! The door's not heavy.
Yeah, I remembered not to stand in front of the autoclave. That's why I lifted the lid up with only my right hand. Which is good, or my left hand would've been in even worse shape than my right. T_T; At least I was wearing long-sleeved fleece that day.
