A tree fell on my house.

Ouch. So, last night at about 5 am I wrapped up what I was writing. The wind and rain had been a gale all day and night, with branches knocking against the house and so forth. The tall pine tree in my neighbor’s front yard, the one which is pretty much between our two houses (which are only a few yards apart) goes up about ten feet and then splits ( Read more... )

Wow, that sucks. We had a tree fall on our house once, and poked a hole through roof.

*ponder* If you can fix the damage without calling the "Insurance" then it's worth doing. By the time they totaled up a bunch of other shit they demanded we fix, we paid out more than we got back from the claim. And then they tried to cancel the coverage anyway.

We'll have to see what damage there is. I can't see anything right now. We have a slate roof (the house was built in 1887) and it's pretty indestructible. Might have to replace a few cracked slates at $25 each? That's my hope anyway...

that is an ex-tree

at least it won't be your insurance that gets hit...that's clearly your neighbors' problem

I know. And to think I parked my car at the other end of the street before I left for Florida because I thought the other trunk might come loose and fall.

Yi! Scary.

And what a shame -- that's one big old tree.

I know! The whole house is surrounded by old growth and it stays cool in summer as a result. Wonder what it will be like now?

Umm, wow! I'm glad it didn't hit any harder. :/ it's probably a good thing that the houses are so close together, with the tree in the middle; it didn't have far enough to fall to build up much momentum before it hit. Glad you and your house and stuff are okay.

Yeah, exactly. Now that both of those trunks have cracked and fallen I can see there was a third trunk in the middle that was clearly already dead, so this tree was reaching the end of its life, for sure.
