I tried to go to crossfit tonight at the new midtown location, but the trainer didn't show. He just called, and it turns out he had texted me at the wrong number to say he couldn't make it. Alex suggested I go to the Y and I *nearly* turned around and biked back downtown but instead decided to buy the celery I needed for the turkey soup and come home to go running. We are running a 4.6 mile Drumstick Dash on Thursday morning, so a run today would not be out of the question.
As happens frequently in this dark time of year, my interest in running after work was quickly fading on my bike ride home. Plus, Alex was home already, so I'd rather talk to him. I made herbed spaghetti squash and decided I would run at 7:15 when he left for band practice. I ate all of the squash, some cheese and crackers, and pined for a glass of wine (we have a bottle from Sunday that does need to be finished).
I nearly got up to go running a few minutes ago, but honestly my right quad is really tight and...I just didn't want to. Alex voted for doing nothing, "Unless you think you'll find the trip to Indy relaxing." So, I poured the wine.
I'm actually (honestly, really) doing an okay job of being okay with not being super active right now. I'm probably working out 2-4 times a week? Runs are short, but Crossfit is hard. I am way stronger than I was in July. I'm just also heavier. My waist is smaller, but my thighs are bigger...it's been a wash.
BUT. I'm cooking. And drinking. And staying out late. Something that, when training, I rarely do. I usually have to be in by 10 if I want to be up and running 12 miles at 8am on Saturday. My pants don't really fit, but I still feel good. I need a goal to train towards to get myself "back on track", but I'm really not that unhappy with being OFF track right now. Also, side note, I'm not injured.
The ONLY thing is that I really miss is marathon training. I miss running first thing in the morning before work, slogging through laps around Belle Isle, sitting in a bathtub of ice, eating a huge brunch at Honest John's, spending a ton of money on shot blocks and running related supplements...having a 5k on the calendar did not really motivate me the last 3 times I added one (which is too bad, really, b/c with the extra power I'm building with crossfit, I could actually improve my 5k time).
...I guess it'll come?
