*winces at the ending because of the terrible, terrible events of the impending season finale here that none of them have any idea about* Darn you and your ending irony. But I love this dearly. And I love, of course, Dean immediately knowing something's up when they get back.
Unless you go way way back pre-series, it's just so hard to write John without seeing the pending doom on the horizon. It really is bittersweet and sad. But I'm glad you liked it.
YES. This! ALL of this, it's perfect! This is what I wanted to read!
There are many things I love about this, but most of all there are a few details that stood out for me:
-That the case was Jim's last hunt he asked John to go on and that he wanted to honor him by finishing the hunt!
-That John wouldn't leave Sam behind in a town with omens foretelling YE's arrival popping up all over the place and that he'd vow to himself that he would stick to Sam and not let him out of his sight. And that Dean didn't exactly like it, but trusted his father and brother enough to know they would be able to solve this on their own.
-That Sam and John are indeed able to go on a hunt together without one of them always barking at the other while Sam would only pout and scowl.
-That both of them are extremely protective of the other (there are a lot of stories out there that show this side of John, but rarely an author lets Sam prove he's just as protective and able to protect his Dad
( ... )
Can't tell you how glad I am you like it. It was an awesome prompt that I'm so glad I got to write. Thank you for coming up with something that really fed into what my muse adores.
