Poe

Dec 17, 2015 14:58

Yesterday D and I went to see a dramatic reading of The Fall of the House of Usher plus a couple of other Poe stories at the Corpus Playroom. It was done by Shedload Theatre, who specialise in dramatic readings of Poe and Lovecraft with live foley sound effects. We've seen a couple of their performances before but delightfully this time they finished off by inviting the audience round to see the sound effects zone. The other two stories were The Black Cat (an effective and sympathetic rendering of a very unlikeable narrator; TW for abusive behaviour towards humans and animals) and Silence -- A Fable (the source text is a bit incoherent but the actor did a good job nonetheless). The Fall of the House of Usher was the stand-out of the evening, a very tense and creepy reading with fantastic sound effects including a very atmospheric storm.

If this sounds like your thing then it's on until Saturday: https://www.corpusplayroom.com/whats-on/drama/the-fall-of-the-house-of-usher.aspx
