Operation Do More Stuff is seriously considering a trip to the US this autumn, including crossing from New York to San Francisco by train. Besides the ever-useful Seat61 US train guide here:
http://www.seat61.com/UnitedStates.htm I also found a handy list of all the intercity passenger trains in the US here:
http://www.american-rails.com/passenger-train-travel.html Dude. That's all the intercity passenger trains in the US. There are two entire states with no passenger trains. Call me European, but, seriously, what? Not to mention that it takes nearly 3 and a half days to cross the country when if you did it at London-Edinburgh speed it would take 29 hours, or a measly 19 at Paris-Strasbourg TGV speed. How do these people ever get anywhere?
(Operation Do More Stuff is failing to make it out to the pub, though, for which it apologises.)
