In preparation for the end of June. Experimental use of the Extended Paperback Scale, which details pre-band preparative actions.
If I were to see this band I would:
* go to the pub instead
** take a book and stand at the back reading it
*** take a book just in case but probably not read it
**** watch and enjoy from mid-room
***** snag a place right at the front and hang riveted on every note
Friday:
Duchess:
*** Terrorvision - cheery teen-angst Kerrang rock
** Salvation - trad guitarry wannabe-Sisters goth rock
** Hellbound Hearts - trad rawk, OK but nothing to write home about
***** Panda Cubs - new wavey, with bouncy rhythms and thoughtful vocals
Fibbers:
**** Method Cell - Danceable if somewhat cookie-cutter electronica
*** Scarlet Soho - Lots of 80s influences which combine into something reminiscent of a naff early 90s boy band
***** Alterred - "Dark cabaret" - bit like a lighter, more quirky version of Pro-jekt
**** Cyferdyne - engaging EBM, bit of a case of Metal Sore Throat in places
Stereo:
0 Joe Black - UK version of Voltaire, irritating as hell
**** The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing - Victorian-flavour comedy songs, bit too much played for laughs, but OTOH _Brunel_ is fantastic.
**** Abdoujaparov - ex-CarterUSM. Funny, wordy songs, quite Neil Innes
? Andrew O'Neill - comedy (other half of TMTWNBBFN)
? Terms of Unnervement - comedy cabaret, something to do with Joe Black?
? Marc Burrows - comedy (half of TMTWNBBFN)
? Henry Raby - performance poet
Saturday:
Duchess:
*** The Psychedelic Furs - laid-back indieish pop
** Red Lorry Yellow Lorry - think you have to have liked them the first time round to see much in them now
** Siiiii - dreary post-punk, OK but mostly asleep
***** Berlin Black & the Shades of Grey - Xris Banshee's lot
Fibbers:
*** EMF - cheesy early 90s boy band, dance-based but with guitars
*** Global Citizen - gloomier, slower, more electronic version of TMT
** Terrornation - beepy beepy
** Null White - dull electronica
*** Capital X - busy electronica with smooth female vocals
Stereo:
*** Professor Elemental - chap hop, fun in bits but perhaps one or two songs would be better than a whole set...
*** Jordan Rayne - singer-songwritery, I know I have listened to this before but can't find where...
**** Release the Bats - slightly rock'n'rolly goth rock
*** Boxcar Aldous Huxley - similar in concept to The Savoy Ballroom, but more rustic and cacophonous (but maybe that is just the recording)
***** The Savoy Ballroom - excellent swing-influenced wordy songs
Sunday:
Duchess:
***** March Violets - a reformed band who are recording new stuff rather than rehashing old, have been trying to see them for ages
** Section 25 - Morrissey-esque depressing indie
***** Vuvuvultures - interesting, energetic post-punk pop
**** David R Black - mature, understated rock, like a less prog version of A Citizen Above Suspicion
*** Honeytone Cody - noodly, slightly noisy and unstructured rock
***** Partly Faithful - Ed Banshee's lot who I have as yet failed to see
Fibbers:
** Modulate - doof-doof merchants
*** Dreams Divide - bouncy 80s-influenced electronica
***** Public Service Broadcasting - catchy, minimalist tunes and excerpts from wartime public service broadcasts
** Seven Days of Night - forgettable whispery light industrial
*** Alibi Trax - energetic electronic stuff
Stereo:
** Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer - chap hop but too much reliance on "this sounds funny in RP"
** Blackbeard's Tea Party - folk with occasional rock elements
** Fearless Vampire Killers - over-processed rock/punk product
** Alice Rock - pop punk, quite bouncy but singer has an irritating voice
