Part 1 “So…”
Ryo shifted the box he was holding to the side, Uchi was standing in the middle of the room, hands in pocket, starring at him. Ryo bit his bottom lip; he had a feeling what was coming on and was absolutely not in the right frame of mind to start an argument.
“What is it? Where’s Tacchon?”
Ohkura was nowhere to be found and the apartment wasn’t big enough to hide anyone for long.
They had learned the hard way what happened when one member of the group went away from their sight for a while.
Ryo didn't want to ever hurt Uchi or Ohkura.
But he also knew deep down that one day he may not have a choice.
"He's just outside on the balcony, trying to get a clearer signal for his phone" Uchi's voice had this slight petulant tone, something that Ryo hadn't heard in a long time. It reminded him of when they both went back and forth on the Shinkansen.
"How long?" Ryo had been busy moving boxes from the pantry but he had specifically said that the two had to watch each other's back.
"Two minutes. Ryo, relax." Uchi threw his hands in the air in the typical passive agressive housewife attitude. It just made Ryo want to punch him.
"We can't afford to relax Uchi!" Ryo growled back, throwing the box on the floor. It resonnated with a loud sound. However, it barely felt any good to destroy something, he had spend so much of the past week trying to preserve his energy.
"So what's your plan?" Uchi's voice rose a notch, crossing his arms against his chest, clearly provoking.
Ryo felt something cold drop in his stomach, he ignored the bead of sweat on his forehead and the pretense that came out of his mouth.
"What do you mean? I have no idea what you mean."
"Fuck you Ryo! You think I don't know? You think I don't know you?! You're Mister Perfectionist trying to deal with all the tiny details of everything! You have a backup plan for everything. And you are preparing something." Uchi made two large stride closer to Ryo, his nostrils flaring, quite reminiscent of the horses Uchi liked so much.
"Shut up. I'm not preparing anything." Ryo said shakily, his plan involved Uchi not knowing anything about the plan. It was pretty much a big factor in the plan actually.
"Yes you are."
Uchi and Ryo turned toward Ohkura who had just slip in the room, his weight against the glass door he had just closed and locked.
Ryo knew he was outnumbered and outstubborned.
"I'm just trying to figure it all out." Ryo said, picking up the box to empty its content on the table.
"Then stop acting like you're alone Ryo-chan! Talk to us because together we have a better chance of surviving whatever this is!" Ohkura spoke, his voice grating a little high just like when he was feeling panic and fear.
"Exactly!" Uchi chimmed in quite unnecessary.
"I'll try." Ryo tried to smile back at Ohkura and Uchi who were grinning to each other as if they had won a battle or something.
"Well, turn on your laptop. Shingo sent me a text that you needed to check your emails." Ohkura showed the cellphone he held in his hand happily, grinning like a little kid.
"Wait! There's news from Tokyo?" Ryo stood straighter at that even if his legs started to shake so badly, he had trouble to stand.
Uchi threw himself next to the living room table where the laptop was -closed- and flumbled to open the lid to press the power button. The three gathered close as they waited anxiously as the machine purred back to life.
Ryo gently pushed Uchi out of the way so he could type his passwords (probably forgot that Uchi already knew them even if he wasn't supposed to) Uchi didn't buldge at first. Ohkura held his breath, expecting Uchi to fight back or react badly. Ever since that day Uchi had trouble being touched in the daylight in any way. When night fell, it was another story but Uchi hadn't yet overcome the attack. No one blamed him really.
Uchi made a little sound at the back of his throat before moving to the opposite side, careful not to touch either of them as he maneuvered around them and the couch.
Ryo clicked on the internet icon, letting out a thankful breath when the explorer page opened showing their connection worked. The internet worked once in a while, they never knew if it would. Sometimes only emails worked and nothing else which was a comfort to be able to say a lot more than what the limited cellphone text message could.
They usually surfed the net looking for information of what was going on in the world, reading hours of news that engulfed them into more despair. The whole world was being taken over by demons and no one really knew anything. There were a lot of pages about praying to God for salvation of the soul.
They had stopped reading thoses pages; after a while it didn't help much.
A lot of websites disapeared too and weren't updating anymore. Apparently some people were broadcasting over the radio but they hadn't yet found it.
Ryo clicked on his e-mail after typing his username and password, steadiying himself for whatever bad news he would read. He immediately saw two bold messages indicating that they were new. He clicked on the first.
"They quarantined Tokyo, no one in or out. They're doing the same to every big city in the world." Ryo read, he saw that the message had been sent to a hell of lot of people that Hina knew; Maru's, Yoko's, Yasu's, Toma's appeared on top of the list. It was dated from 2 days ago.
"Let's read the other one, okay?" Tacchon said gently, it had been sent barely an hour ago.
Ryo held his breath before clicking. He didn't reconize who sent the message, there were so many people he wanted to hear from. He almost felt guilty of wanting to hear from one over another.
"It's Shige." Ryo said too stun to be able to say if he was disapointed or not.
"He's outside of Tokyo and can't go back in. He's coming here?" Uchi read out loud almost word by word, processing the meaning slowly.
Ryo jumped to his feet, propulsed with a burst of energy. He paced a little while the other two watched him back and forth.
"What the fuck went through Shige's head? Isn't he supposed to be smart? It's suicide to come in Osaka! He should find a spot and hide." Ryo snarled, his hands gesturing widly in front of him.
"I think we're stronger if we stick together." Uchi said, curling his arms under his knees and pressed tightly his long legs against his chest.
"What do you mean?" Ohkura asked him gently, crawling a little bit closer.
"We should stick together. We should go and get Sho-chan and Subaru-kun and our families to be all together." Uchi mumbled, his eyes fixed on the window as large tears rolled on his cheeks. Ohkura extended a hand to touch Uchi but stop midway in the air and stared helplessly at Ryo.
Ryo swore loudly before retreating to the bedroom, pulling out rolls of paper with him.
"What are you doing?" Ohkura asked rising to his feet.
"Looking at maps. We're going to help that moron navigate his way here. Then we're going to get the stupid lovebirds. And check on our families to make sure they are safe." Ryo explainned, throwing for a second time the carton box on the floor to unroll the maps on the table.
"And then?" Uchi asked, no moving an inch from his spot.
"And then? We're going to do something about those sick fuckers. I'm sick of this." Ryo snarled as he fought to keep the map open. Ohkura hurried to hold it open, taking a nearby book as a paperweight. He met Ryo's searching glance.
"Okay by me." Ohkura replied, smirking.
