Ok, so about a month back
drivebycomments and I were talking about things to do. I've always wanted to go camping again since my last trip a couple of years ago, but with my schedule it's just hard to take the time to do it. Well, with enough notice even I can take off, so we decided to go camping the end of the month. That was this past weekend, and I'm back! I went out and bought a bunch of camping equipment, including a new huge tent and then invited a bunch of friends. Unfortunately only Nicole and Issac (
beakers) went with me due to an unexpected vehicle malfunction that left four of my friends without a way to go. Bummer. Anyway, it was really really nice.
The last place I went camping was up in Rhode Island with friends from New York. It was a great trip and it was fun to be with them, but the campground wasn't that amazing. It had nice amenities like running water at the campsites, power at the campsites, hot showers, etc, but the ground was rocky and hard and there was no grass whatsoever. Trees were pretty much just in a ring around the entire campground or around some of the permanent camp buildings. So, you are there with a tent, but you feel like you are in some sort of trailer park of tents. WELL, let me tell you about this place we just went to: It's like, totally out in the woods, trees everywhere, it's private, it's shady and there's a creek like 25 feet from the side of the camp that is both attractive and making happy creek noises that totally made us all go "Wow, that's so nice..." So we have this picturesque camp site, but we have no toilets. Ack. How did my friend put it? "It's not like campground camping, it's like boy scout camping". So, you are warned. If someone you know wants to go "boy scout camping" and they aren't wearing their yellow and blue bandana and blue outfit, they meant there's no freaking bathrooms.
Anyway, it was a very cool trip, and besides toilets, it was perfect. I had my very excellent girlfriend Nicole there, and it seems that what I forgot, she seemed to have thought of and packed! While Issac and I set the tent up that first night, she was unfolding chairs and tables and packing the food and drinks correctly. Superb teamwork! The fire was a challenge the first night, but the second night we had it roaring in no time. I even managed to sneak a little reading time in by waking up earlier than my companions one morning. :-) Totally relaxing, totally fun. Oh, and if you read Issac's post? Oh yeah baby, you are looking at the Mille Bornes King here, bwahahaha!
If anyone I know wants to go sometime, it's entirely possible that I'll go again this year. I had so much fun, I don't think I'll have any difficulty in talking Nicole or Issac into going back again either. :-)
