Took my grandmother to the emergency room last night because her blood pressure and oxygen got really low during physical therapy and the therapist called the doctor who wanted her in the hospital. They found out, additionally, that she had enzymes heightened that suggest damage to the heart. She was dehydrated and she's still not eating even in the hospital.
I can't help but wonder, as her world becomes smaller as her disability and illness worsens, this isn't her trying to exert some control over something in her life.
The emergency room was especially crazy last night. Mind you that nothing ever happens where I live. I've been to the emergency room a dozen times since Thanksgiving and it's invariably coughing children and minor injuries. The occassional car crash. However, apparently last night there was someone who had gotten shot which has led to six police officers standing around the hallway. Meanwhile, there's a kid laying on a stretcher in the middle of the hallway with the front of his hospital gown covered with blood who apparently stabbed himself.
All around, it seemed to be a bad night for everyone.
