It is with mixed emotions that I am sending this email off to you, before embarking on a very different journey.  I think I’ve managed to get ahold of most of you, but for those that I haven’t been able to get in touch with, I will be leaving Ottawa for the next 10 months with a group called NET ministries (a national youth ministry program with its headquarters here in Ottawa).  Beginning next Wednesday, on August 23rd, I will be partaking in a 5 week faith formation program outside of Ottawa, and then following that, spend the remaining 9 months sharing my faith with young people across either Canada or Ireland.

While I know this is rather sudden news, it is something that I have felt strongly called to do only a short while ago, and even my acceptance was merely three weeks ago.  Despite the hurried departure, and having to leave behind family and friends, I am excited to embark on this new journey; to be able to follow whatever plans are hidden along my future path.  It will be a year of many changes, but I am feeling these are for the better, and although it is a bit intimidating, I know these changes are what must occur.

I want all of you to know that although I will be physically leaving you, you shall all be in my prayers.  As well, if I may ask a favour of you, I ask that you include myself and the other Netters in your prayers, as we undergo our training and go forth to spread a message of hope through this country and Ireland.  I also ask for prayers for all the people that we shall encounter in our ministry and while traveling.

In addition, should you feel that you wish to help out with this endeavor in a more concrete manner, I am still trying to fundraise so as to be able to help offset the costs of travel, training, health care, and a monthly stipend.  If you feel called to help with this, please call me (613-297-7855) or email dan.hutter@gmail.com .Nonetheless, the most important thing that I ask of you is your prayers.

I shall apologize right now for not having been very available over the past little while to meet up with people before leaving.  Unfortunately, I was bogged down with schoolwork, so as to be able to complete my education in only a year upon my return.  Also, I am afraid that after I leave for NET, I shall not have much access to email, and my cellphone will be given to one of my brothers.  On that note, the best way to get in touch with me is by mail (and I shall include the address at the bottom of this email), which I shall receive every few weeks.  I shall do my best to reply to any mail I receive, in a timely manner.  On the note of receiving regular updates, I cannot guarantee this at this point in time.  However, I should also point out a manner that will ensure at least 4 letters or so.  Since this mission is being funded by donations, part of my job is to ensure that I send out the occasional update to my donors (pretty much, for a small donation, of even $10, it is a guarantee of receiving some sort of update on occasion).  I shall also try my best to send out the occasional email, should I have access.

Since there is less than a week before training begins, and I still have many preparations to undergo before leaving, I am afraid that I will not have a great deal of opportunities to run into people.  Given this, there are two likely opportunities where I shall be around.  The first one is this Sunday, August 20, at the Barley Mow’s Pub (Bank and Sunnyside).  After the 8pm mass at Blessed Sacrament, I shall be arriving there for approximately 9:30pm to enjoy some food, including the infamous Fr. Joe Wings.  That is most likely the best chance to bump into me.  The other opportunity will be September 30, at Notre Dame Basilica, where the various NET teams will be in attendance for a commissioning mass, after which we begin our travels the following day.  I am not sure of the time of this at the moment, but your best bet is to verify this at www.netcanada.ca .  Other than these opportunities, I will most likely be busy preparing to leave for training Wednesday.

Should you wish to be able to receive mail and such, please email me your contact information, so that I can compile it before I leave for training.  As well, the best bet for that is still somehow arranging to be a donor.  I may be back for a short while around Christmas, but I am still not sure on this point.

I shall stop forcing you to read this long email, but I would just like to thank each and every one of your for your prayers and support over the past few years.  I am very grateful for God having placed all of you in my life, and no matter what the distance, none of you shall be forgotten, and I shall look forward to sharing stories at the end of this year.  May you all continue to follow your hearts, and continue to be the wonderful friends that you are.

Your Brother in Christ,

Dan Hutter

Ps. Please give me a heads up if you think you’ll be making it out Sunday night, so I can warn the Mow’s if there’s going to be many people
