Though it has been a cry for Filipino artists to be given much attention in terms of preserving, advancing and even promoting what has been called OPM (short for original Pinoy music or original Philippine music) and even with the a House Bill 4218, which was being pushed to become a law; still there is a shortage of venue where the local music is being promoted, to which the show ‘Young Once (Upon a Time)’, a production of NET25’s Edutainment TV (ETV) and a special project of the office of Eagle Broadcasting Corporation’s president-was finally born.
The new musical show, which is hosted by three of Philippine music icons-Anthony Castelo, Eva Vivar and Darius Razon aired on Sunday, August 25 at 8pm via NET25. It is being simulcast on EBC’s PINAS FM, the only FM station that plays 100 percent OPM hits.
‘Young Once (Upon a Time)’ as a show, it does not just seek to cater the young-at-heart or the ‘young once’ as the title may have suggested such perception. It will be a platform for acquainting the millennials or even the Generaction Zs to the music of the past. It will be a way to serve as a blast-to-the-past as well as a guaranteed ally in showcasing the best of Philippine music from the 60s to the 90s.
As a nation of diverse and rich culture, through music-it helps to define and reflect the soul of this country. The show will further the cause in celebrating the sentiments of the people and turn all these (whether individual or as a whole) into distinct melodies that Filipinos can continue to improve to be both locally and globally competitive.
According to Asia’s Queen of Songs-Miss Pilita Corales, she described the show as a long-overdue venue to showcase and celebrate Filipino timeless music as well as current hits as a way to unite various generations of Filipino music artists and lovers.
