Rex Lantano: Young but a Fearless Artist-in-the-Making

Jul 08, 2017 06:45

The 20-year-old guy named Rex Lantano started as an ‘extra’ on television series. It was four years ago that he first appeared in one of the many episodes of ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ (MMK). He was just one of the crowd members during the said taping.

He could fondly recall how he started in the entertainment industry, “Nagkataon na noong salang ko sa taping ng MMK-the production needed someone to be a ‘bully’ to the protagonist.”

He was also asked if he could deliver lines and he replied that he could do it.

“Kahit wala pa akong experience pero happy naman ako na nagawa ko ng maayos and so far naka eight guesting na po ako sa weekly show na yun.”

From a Promise, He is fulfilling it.

Rex credits his creative side to his grandfather-Rudy Lantano, an award-winning Filipino inventor.

But due to lack of government support-he made a promise to himself to reclaim the image and honor that his grandfather has given to their family, “Nangako po ako sa lolo ko nung nasa hospital siya na sana makapagbigay din ako ng karangalan sa family namin sa paraan na alam ko-at yun ay ang pag arte.”

At a young age, even if he wants to create a name for himself and to provide better living for his family; in his four years or so, he has learned a lot, too, “Natutunan ko po ang maghintay. Wag magmamadali at wag ipilit ang sarili kung hindi pa talaga kaya o oras.”

Slowly, since he is determined and committed to fulfill his dream and promise-he invested in himself to undergo workshops.

Another thing that he realized is-“Ayusin ang sarili, the looks bilang artista, makinig palagi sa plano ng manager. Kapag handa na at hinog na. Sisiguraduhin na di maipapahiya ang pangalan ng manager at made-deliver ng maayos ang character na naka-assign sa kanya.”

In Working with Big Names in Showbiz…

One of his biggest break was when he had the opportunity to act with the Star-for-All-Seasons-Ms. Vilma Santos in the 2013 Filipino socio-realist drama-comedy film by Jeffrey Jeturian’s ‘Ekstra’ (The Bit Player), “Napakalaking karangalan po sa akin na makatrabaho ang mga kagaya niya.

Acting side-by-side with big names in the industry is challenge for him.

“Natutuwa po ako every time na may nakakatrabaho akong halimaw kung umarte.

Apart from Ms. Santos, he also had the opportunity to be in the scenes with Coco Martin for MMK and with the tandem of KathNiel in ‘Princess and I’ of ABS-CBN.

Recently, he is thankful for being part of #ToFarmFilmFestival2017 official entry and finalist-‘What Home Feels Like?

He described both Bembol Roco and Irma Adlawan as, “Sobra po silang generous na actors. Hindi nila kami pinapabayaan sa set. Binibigyan nila kami ng tips, sobrang marami po kaming natutunan sa kanila.”

In the said film, he is Julius Concepcion, the youngest and the wtin brother of Bianca Libinting’s character.

He’s looking forward to Working with More Big Stars.

Even with his brief exposure in this colorful world of show business-he doesn’t want to stop learning and enhancing himself. Also, according to him, “Whenever I get the chance to watch good films-I always get carried away.

And because of such he imagined himself to be part of a show or film.

If given the chance, he’d want to work with Coco Martin, “Pangarap ko pong magkaroon kami ng eksena, na sagutan yung mabibigat na lines na parang magkapatid.

“Gusto ko rin si John Lloyd Cruz dahil sa sobrang galing niya! And apart from Ms. Adlawan, gusto ko rin pong maging nanay sa anumang eksena si-Ms. Maricel Soriano.

Today, he doesn’t want to stop learning and acting, “Gutom na gutom akong umarte."

He remembered how another director-Zig Dulay remarked about him, “Pang TV yung acting mo (editing the film ‘Ekstra’)

“Nagulat po ako na may ganun pala. Na may TV acting, indie acting, mainstream acting; kaya in the process-nag-observe po ako, inaral ko po kung ano ang pagkakaiba nila sa isa’t-isa.”
