Leopard saves baby baboon after killing its mother

Another story to consider:

"From the bedraggled pelt of her kill crawls a tiny infant - a one-day-old baboon. In that moment, this young leopard forgets she is a hunter, and nurtures the baby baboon as if it were her own cub."

A difficult occurrence to reconcile with many theses of metaphysics, particularly those that are heavily materialist in influence. Why would a predatory carnivore save and protect something that it should clearly identify as food? A typical behaviouralist argument might be that the leopard behaved in a manner stemming from genetic impulses to protect helpless infants, which were erroneously directed to a being of the 'incorrect' species. 'A good enough answer?
