Hurricane Sandy update, 19:30p

Oct 29, 2012 19:35

The wind in Philadelphia is loud and angry. Power, water, and internet are all still on, for now. There are 2x-4x more people without power in Montgomery and Bucks Counties (each) than in Philadelphia proper. Cities FTW.

Jim Cantore needs to bug the hell out of the Battery Park City Esplanade, where the water is over the wall and lapping up to the bottom of the benches. (This is apparently where Irene was at its worst.) Jersey City is losing power on live television, and Con Ed is about to pre-emptively shut off the power in Lower Manhattan.

We have not yet reached high tide.

The storm is accelerating and drifting slightly left of its predicted track (landfall around Ocean City, NJ, not Atlantic City).

ETA 21:40p: Current pressure 956 mbar at Port Richmond.
