Breaking the Bottle

Feb 03, 2013 20:04

Started conditioning my hands and working on chop speed, so that I may break a whiskey bottle with a knife hand in about a month or two.
So far the training's going well.

I still need to work on consistent speed and relaxation of the arm. Visualizing my arm as a whip actually helps with speed on the outward chop, but the inward chop is different. the curve is a lot smaller. I have to pretend my arm is more of a blade in a swift arc.

I'm using a candle to work on speed training. I gradually move farther away from the candle as my hand speed increases and I'm able to put out the flame consistently.

For hand conditioning, I'm using 2X4 pinewood blocks I bought from Lowes. That's going well, tool. Figured I'might as well condition my knuckles while I was at it, so I'm doing that, too.

I also just started to use the shinai for sword control training on the wood blocks, as well.

That's going to take a lot more practice...
