A published study in this month's American Journal of Psychiatry shows that Marijuana is NOT a gateway drug. In a prospective study of young men (it was only in males) over the course of their childhoods and young adult lives they found that the only predictors of drug use were individual proneness to deviancy and drug availability in the neighborhood. This follows the report issued by the Canadian government in 2002 that showed the same thing, but that got minimal US media play.
