Best Craigslist find ever: a free upright piano, which four dear friends and I moved into the house with a couple of strangers' assistance after (on less than 24 hours' notice) renting a u-haul, buying a bunch of ratcheting straps and gloves, and careening around they city in a quasilegal fashion. The piano made the 10-mile journey to Wallingford almost completely intact, and is in point of fact still in a more-or-less consistent tune, which is doubly surprising considering that two of us were standing in the back of the truck playing it while driving. What's better still is that the company that made it went out of business in '33, and was apparently known for the fine quality of its instruments; I can't find a serial number anywhere, but the odds are extremely high that the piano is between 75 and 100 years old (and still plays beautifully).
My whole body is sore from lifting the damned thing (it probably weighs 500-600 lbs.); it was entirely worth it. I'm going to bed.
