Thunderdome just kept me from breaking my damnfool neck.
No, really. I was barreling down Roosevelt doing maybe 25 on the fixie while doing a shoddy job of watching for potholes because of the wind-induced tearing, and hit the lip of that big manhole-cover crater just south of 65th. While clipped in. The bike bounced and started to roll forwards, and I somehow managed to unclip my feet and jump clear of it before it flipped up to vertical, and thus found myself standing in the middle of the street twenty yards from the problem spot of road and a good ten feet in front of my bike, still holding the coffee cup I was carrying to lab. The only reason I can think of that I'm not bleeding and crawling right now or, I suppose, hobbling home - my skeleton's pretty solid) is that through an unlikely series of events I've managed to spend a fair bit of time orienting myself while rotating and flying through the air.
So thanks, DGTD. Now I don't have to go to the hospital, and can continue with my evening work session as planned.
