Another NaNoWriMo Post

Well, after a few weeks of pondering what type of story I should write for NaNo, I have concluded that a story should be written in the Exalted universe. After reviewing some of my best writing I've found that I do my best work when I can drop my original cast of characters into an already established universe. This allows me to explore ideas and various character traits with out having to create the world's framework from scratch (which I can get rather distracted and overwhelmed doing).

RPGs are one of my many hobbies, as well, so it is fun taking a game system that has been created for people to make their own stories and "campaigns" within and fill it with all the eccentric characters I have running around in my mind. Exalted seems like a game that is uniquely qualified for a novel type story. It has a rich mythology, a large scale world filled with many types of people, characters, and all sorts of fantasy creatures, dieities, and complicated social structures.

The way this world is built lends itself to exploring a global society in flux and can be a sandbox for exploring ideologies and their potential ramifications/consequences.  It will be interesting fleshing out the ideas of what it might mean to take one of the "regular folk" and Exalt her to the status of a demigod. I want to write about a cast who has been, given a great deal of power or influence, and then see how that power corrupts, empowers or otherwise causes conflict with the others who have recently Exalted. I like the concept of the characters remaining effectively the same people with the same values and ambitions; their inherent character will only be amplified by the newly acquired power base.
