Here Comes the Sun!

I always get excited about the Winter Solstice - not so much because it's the beginning of winter - though most years I love winter - but because it means the days are getting longer again. As I get older, I dislike driving home from work in the dark more and more. I don't have difficulty seeing, I just don't like it. Since I work until 6:00 p.m. and twilight begins sometime between 4:30 and 5:00, I spend several months of the year driving home in the dark. Plus, if it's dark when I get home, I don't want to do anything, even though there are several hours until bedtime. (It's not an issue right now because of work-from-home but most years it is.)

I really am turning into a fuddy-duddy! 30 years ago I drove to New Buffalo in a near-blizzard just so I could watch Lake Michigan in a storm. Now I won't go if the skies look particularly threatening. Part of that is Irish, who's more cautious about such things that I am but part of it is just being older, I guess. Maybe wiser? It's probably wiser not to be driving on 2-lane highways in a blizzard just to watch a storm at the beach!

just life, weather
