Irish and I still aren't going places much especially because covid-19 is spiking again. I'm pretty sure that when the governor began reopening the state, most people thought that meant the virus was gone. My sister (a nurse) says they've been seeing more and more cases, first from factories opening again and for the past couple weeks, from Memorial Day parties. People have been having graduation open houses and next Saturday there will be 4th of July parties all over the place. Not for us! My oldest niece and her family will be here from Georgia and usually we all get together at my sister's house to celebrate July 4 and multiple birthdays. I talked with my sister today and we and my mom all think it will be best to meet in a park and everyone bring their own food. I suspect we won't stay a long time. One of my cousins is having a graduation open house for her daughter tomorrow - they invited 300 people! (That girl is going to get a lot of money - most people don't show up at graduation parties empty-handed.) I'm not going, neither is my sister, my mom, and at least one of my aunts.
But we have been taking drives on the weekend, just to one neighboring town or another - sometimes on back roads - to go through a drive through and get something to eat. Today's my birthday and I've had my mind set on food from a place called Caracas Bistro. (
https://www.facebook.com/caracasbistro.sb/). We've only been there once before and have been looking forward to going back. I felt pretty safe in there - we ordered ahead and I went in alone to pick up the food. The three employees I saw all wore masks and while there were inside diners, they were only seated at every other booth or table. (I still wouldn't eat in, though. I'm waiting until numbers are way down.) This is what I had for my lunch:
That's a cheese empanada; an arepa with pulled chicken, mayonnaise, and avocado (basically like an avocado chicken salad); and about one third of an order of llanera fries - french fries covered with steak, bacon, gouda cheese, avocado, and a delicious sauce. The fries alone are enough for a meal! Irish had some and there are still more in the fridge. I took the toppings that fell off the fries and stuffed them into the empanada. I'm still full, hours later. This is one place I'm looking forward to going back to with family and friends and making a party of it.
