From the outside it has always seemed odd that a country that insists it is trying to export democracy to other countries when it invades places (throughout the Middle East for example), also had a largish proportion of the populace with no trust in their own democracy, who firmly believe if the don't all have guns the army will turn on them, and the government that they have voted for is out to enslave them.
We in the small island are happy that our government are acting in our interests - in fact some people are worried that any loosening of our strict lockdown is a step too far. And it seems as if people in the UK feel the same, as do people throughout Europe. New Zealand seem pretty happy that their government acted in their best interests too, and my mother-in-law in Australia is happy enough with how its going there. My LJ friend in South Africa, where they have a tight lock down, also seems happy enough with the need for it, and trusts the government are doing it in the interests of the people.
Personally I think, as the demonstrators seem to be the sort of people who regard socially funded medicine to be the work of the devil, that the insurance companies they think provide the world's best medical care should refuse to fund any care if it can be prove someone has covid 19 after attending a demonstration, as their illness is self-inflicted.
