I haven't talked about Leonard Nimoy's death to anyone in "real life", except to mention it to a friend at work and to my husband, both of whom thought it was sad, but that's it. I don't know how to express to people outside fandom why his death makes me sad for more than just a few minutes or how a character he played almost 50 years ago has meant so much to me since I was 13. Inside fandom, I don't have to. Fans get it. Even if they're not Star Trek fans, they still get it. Thank you, Leonard Nimoy, for making my teen years better and for giving me such enjoyment all my life, and thank you fandom for getting it.
