How Obsessive Are You Over Buffy? brought to you by
Quizilla My weekend was good. Busy, but good. Friday did the usual grocery shopping. Saturday we had the memorial service for my niece, Maddy. It was very hard...very sad. My other niece, Emily, is also buried in the same cemetary. (Emily was stillborn at seven months, Maddy passed away at five & a half months along) Emily died in 1997. It's so sad how many graves are there since she was buried. My sister-in-law and her husband released pink & white balloons with notes tied to them from Maddy's brother & sister (Cole, age 3, and Emma, age 5). We sang Amazing Grace and had a little service led by J's aunt, Sister Joan Elizabeth. It was nice and very moving. I put pink roses on both girls' graves.
After that we went to my inlaws for a lunch thing, then home for a bit to rest up before heading out again to my church to have dinner at the Youth Group's annual Spaghetti Supper & basket auction. Each kid in the group is responsible for putting together a themed basket that is then auctioned off at the dinner. The baskets go from anywhere around $15 to over $200 depending on what's in them. We've had baskets that included tickets to Disney World or Busch Gardens, football tickets, autographs, etc. This year was no exception and I think the kids raised about $4000 toward their summer trip. My father contributed to this by buying Julia a Disney Princess basket that contains things much too old for her (like a lunchbox, a shirt, etc.) but she'll love it anyway, and really...the point was that he wanted to buy it for her.
My father is like a kid with this auction. It's his favorite event of the year and winning that basket made him *so* happy. Julia will receive the basket for her birthday in a week.
After the dinner my sister took Julia home with her and John and I went to see "Miracle." It was *fantastic,* I thought. John and I are big fans of the HBO special on the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team, "Do You Believe In Miracles?" When we heard this movie was coming out I knew we'd have to see it. Kurt Russell did a great job of portraying Herb Brooks, and you just fall in love with the guys playing hockey. Even though I knew how it ended, there were tears on both our faces while we watched. I rec it for everyone to see. It's a feel good movie.
Sunday we slept in because Jules was gone, then got ready for my birthday brunch that my grandparents were hosting. Did that, then back to my mom's for cake & presents. I did nicely. I had asked for Best Buy gift certificates because I'd like a new digital camera. I got $100 towards that, the Dido "Life for Rent" CD, and my father ordered me a Vermont Teddy Bear. Oh, and my sister had a pretty "Julia" bracelet made for me. Very nice.
When we got home from that we rested up and then went out to dinner with John's parents, who asked us to join them because for the past two weeks we've pretty much discussed nothing with them but the death of my neice and J's grandma having a stroke. It was fun.
NO South Beach Diet this weekend...so today I'm back to Phase 1 to help kickstart myself again. Must lose more weight. I was down 14 pounds but I've put on a few in the last week or so, so... *diets*
This week should be good and slow. No big plans. Getting Julia's one-year picture taken on Saturday morning. I can't wait. :) I bought her the most adorable dress ever...it's really an ensemble. Dress, cardigan, socks, shoes, hat. I *heart* the Children's Place.
