I'm not sorry

Wow.
It’s been a long time.
(But I’m not going to apologize, because I don’t want to end up here on the “I’m sorry I haven’t posted” blog. Embarrassing the number of times one starts a blog with those words).
I’ve been busy-finishing a novel (THE GIRL IN ROOM 203-- done!) health problems (writing on steroids-no really-prednisone. Not fun.) and doing my other job as “Mom,” but I have been neglecting this space for writing, and I really promised myself I would check in here once a month, if only for my own good. So I’m going to try to get back to that.

Two reasons for checking in now: One is that the episode of “48 Hours” based on our memoir has gone into syndication on some cable channel (Discovery I.D. or ?? something like that). Anyhow, it is shown with some regularity now-and I never know when it’s on until after, when I get lots of emails from folks who catch it and reach out. I have been a little slow about returning these emails, so I wanted to send out a note to everyone who has seen the episode and finds me through my website or this blog. Thank you! Thanks for taking the time to watch the episode and to look me up and to put your thoughts down in a letter to my family and me. It means so much to us. And I will write everyone back eventually, it just takes a little time, especially when some days I check my email and I have two or three and then the next day there are fifty because the show has aired without me knowing.

In somewhat related news, I’m thrilled to have been asked to speak at a conference for law enforcement officers here in California. I usually speak at events geared to publishers or writers, or even speak to teen readers. But I’ve never done a law enforcement conference, and I’m honored that they asked me. Putting together a presentation that I hope will be beneficial to everyone who attends, and I’ll let you know how it goes.

Now back to the novel in progress-a YA story set in a haunted lighthouse off the coast of Maine. Fun research awaits….hoping to spend the night in a lighthouse (un-haunted, preferably) next month….know of any?
