The Fourth of July weekend, as many friends will attest to, is an awkward one for those dealing with the anime side. Many fans end up flocking to Anime Expo for the holiday and the industry folks as well as those that report on it spend plenty of time covering it, even if you do it from afar like I have. For me, being on the east coast, California time makes it harder since the afternoon events become evening or late night events depending on the time, and that can preclude some actual holiday plans. Not that I let it interfere too much. I still made it out for a lovely time on Sunday to hang out at Cat and J.P.’s for a bit as they had an informal “those who stayed around” BBQ. It was an amusing moment near the start though during some the introductions to her family that were there as they knew me through Miria as, well, Miria’s reputation precedes us all. You’d think I’d have gotten used to that by now.
The weekend itself has been pretty laid back, getting some things done around the house, doing a good amount of work as I prepare for my trip to Maine next weekend with the kids, and covering the new shows that are slowly making their way out there. There’s a strange feeling where just for a short period, there’s far fewer shows on to watch than normal, and I feel like I’m not doing all that I could. Which is dangerous because I start adding more things and then the regular things come back and I’m completely screwed.
Tonight I’m hoping that my grill is in good enough working order after not being used for about a year to let me grill up some hamburgers for Kim and myself. Thinking I’ll settle in, watch a movie, do a little late night writing and just kick back. Well, at least as much as I do anyway.
all ramblings,
