I have to admit that I'm pretty ashamed of myself for not updating this journal anywhere near as often as I used to. I made such a break with so many things a couple of years ago that this was definitely caught up in it as I needed to step back from it all. Getting back into it has proven difficult though I've had some private postings here and there just to cover a few things that I needed to have written down somewhere.
Changes are always the order of the day around here and they're some pretty big ones. After asking Kim to move in awhile ago, I had to figure out how to rework the room arrangement here to get things right with her and Daniel being here. I didn't want to put the two girls in the same room since they have that at their mothers and with Amethyst I wanted to give her something that would fit in with the way she's going to junior high in the fall. I ended up getting her down to the first level room which has been my office. I cut it in half basically, using creative full length curtains to provide the new "wall" between the two areas. This lets her change it depending on her moods while gaining independence by moving down there away from the other bedrooms. She's been thrilled with the idea and was so excited when she saw it mostly set up. So much so that she wanted to stay the night that night to try it out. The first couple of days of it has worked well with them here and she's definitely spending some quality time there as she personalizes it.
I've made a few changes around the house as I try to get some things updated like they've needed to for years, and trying to do it myself. I took down a couple of cabinets in the kitchen, one of which I replace with a pair of shelves to hold just a few specific drinking glasses. I previously had a cabinet full of them but we were only using a fraction of them. This just makes it cleaner and the kitchen area I worked on ended up feeling more spacious. Still a few more tweaks to make and then i have to figure out how well I can do with replacing the cabinets for real, which will be a challenge but should give me a great looking kitchen area.
Tomorrow's project is to finish cleaning out Amethyst's old room and getting Miria's room cleaned up so she can move into it. Daniel will be taking over Miria's room so I need to get that in order. This won't be too bad to get done since I pared down her room before, but she has to make a few choices as well but it will be nice to get her into a bigger room. She loves her room as it is, especially since I painted it last summer in red and black, giving her a vampire room she begged for, but she's ready to move on already. This child will grow up fast to be sure and she proves it daily that she's leapfrogging ahead.
Today was definitely a good day with them as we went off to Coco Key together for a day of fun in the indoor park. They were silly, fun, relaxed and pleasant throughout it for the most part. Afterwards they both cleaned up well and quickly, had a great dinner and then we spent time with miria and I playing Pirates of the Caribbean LEGO for awhile. She continues to delight me with that as she masters it and plays better than she used to. Amethyst amused me a lot tonight as well as she spent the evening reading a lot of stuff on the Green Lantern mythos that she had me print her from wikipedia and then she found the graphic novels that I have on a bookshelf in my office. That she claimed them as hers and curled up in her bed to read right afterward made me grin hugely.
