Monday morning got off to a good start today with Amethyst grabbing a few bucks for a very big molar that dropped last night and both girls had a good morning in getting ready for school. What got to me though is when I dropped them off at the school. Miria leaned in for the required kiss on the cheek I get every dropoff and she bolted off to go be with everyone. Amethyst did the same though she dallies a touch more with all of it. I was watching them go down the long driveway by the baseball field when I saw that Miria went too fast and tripped and fell down. I wasn't going to get out of the car since it'd be a social faux pas to be sure, and I saw her get up a little bit and you could see the tears in her face. I stayed there so she could come back if she needed to. Amethyst however raced over to get to her younger sister, helped her stand up straight, cleaned off her knee and helped her get her stuff. And then put her arm over Miria's shoulder, pulled her close and walked her the rest of the way. It was quite the sight to see the two of them like that and it did me in.
I've been stressing to both girls in the last few months that they will have each other longer in their lives than anyone else. The bonds of siblings are difficult ones as they both know well since they grate on each other at times. But they also have very, very strong affection and love towards each other. Having seen so many relationships among both sides of my family when it comes to siblings go so poorly, I hope they can escape that fate and have a good adult relationship together. And I hope what I saw today is something that will stay with them in how they deal with people in general.
