G-spot... Gonads... Goose... GOOD TIMES!... Goodbye??

hey kids -

well, once again, i had a very eventful weekend, and i didnt write about it day by day, so here i am stuck with four days of memories and only about 40 minutes in which i can type them up. good thing im a fast type, eh?

so friday -

ok day, i suppose... wind ensemble dress rehearsal - then lunch with scott [another conducting TA] at einstein bagels - concert [don't ask...] - strong drink at my restaurant with some dinner - chilled with Josh, Katie, Corley and Becky at Harry's for a while [not to be confused with Henry's] - went to pick up Matt Reher from the airport [his flight was 2 hours late] - then we went to Henry's, had a few drink and went on home [after watching some Strangers with Candy] :)

saturday -

wake up - get ready - leave for chicago. on the way there i decide we just HAVE to stop at Culver's to get some butterburgers and fried cheese curds so that Matt can experience some real wisconsin here. of course the one that i choose is about 800 miles just off the interstate, so that cut into our driving time to chicago. we eat on the way down and, once in chicago, we decide "hey - what are we going to do?!" yeah - not the best planners in the world. so we decide to see if we can get tickets to Wicked... Wicked starring Ana Gasteyer as Elphaba and is running indefinitely in Chicago because it keeps selling out.... yeah, that one. so - the guy in front of us asks if there are any available tickets for the matinee [it's 1:30 and it begins at 2] or the night [8:00pm]. she says no. [very rudely, i might add] then procedes to tell him that they do no re-release will-call tickets... so basically, we're S-O-L.

matt saw a girl outside holding up a ticket, so i went out there to see if she was selling it... indeed, she was, but only one.
Me: are you selling that ticket?
Girl from LA: yes
Me: i need two
GFLA: well - i only have one, i seriously doubt you're going to find someone selling two
Me: well - we dont need to sit together, we just need to be in there at the same time
GFLA: that's true
Me: stay here with me - i'll find another one

so i put my finger "1" in the air and keep talking to the girls with matt. come to find out - they were from LA and had ordered three tickets for the friday night performance and for some reason ticketmaster gave her two friday nights and one sat. matinee. they were in the same position as us the night before - and got a ticket. while standing there, an old woman approaches me.

old woman: are you looking to buy a ticket
me: yes, but just one
OW: well, that's all i have - it's $48, but my husband only wants $40 for it
me: nice! we'll take it!

[matt and i dish out copious amounts of money]

did we check to see if the tickets were real? no. in fact, the old woman's was in black and white printed off of the computer. at least the GFLA had color on hers. now - here is where i differ from most people... most would suspect the girl from LA who was dressed in whatever Cyndi Lauper had thrown into the alley after a concert in 1987 of ticket fraud - but not me. see - when im old, im gonna be pullin this kinda shit. that old woman looked shady. did we check to see if the tickets were even for Wicked? no. we are morons.

so - we're walking back to the car and the conversation goes something like this:
me: so, where is your seat?
matt: um.... aisle 10, row EE, seat 8
me: oh cool.
matt: where's yours?
me: let me see.... aisle 10, row....EE......., seat...........6?
matt: no way.
me: holy shit.
matt: there's a mess-up we can't possibly be right next to one another
me: i know -
[we start frantically looking for "east" wing or "west wing" thinking maybe they have identicle seating on opposite sides of the theatre]
me: well - at any rate, seat 7 is in between us... so we wouldn't be RIGHT next to one another
matt: mmm... not really. most theaters do odd numbers on one side and even on the other
me: shit - that's true.

[we walk into the theater and the lady scans our tickets.... THEY'RE GOOD! these are actually tickets for Wicked for THIS performance... geaux us! then we walk up to the usher
me: excuse me - can you tell me where our seats are?
usher1: that ain't mah section - you needs to go down ovah dehr
me: shit, ok.

me: excuse me - can you tell me where our seats are?
usher2: yeah - right over here [walking] you are right here... annnnnnnnnd, you are... well, right next to him.
matt: what?
usher2: yeah - you guys are next to each other [in really good seats, mind you!]
me: holy shit.

seaux - somehow matt and i scalped a ticket from girl from LA and an old woman from chicago and ended up sitting RIGHT NEXT to one another!!! WTF, MATE. and GOOD seats.

as for the show - i will just say this.... incredible. Ana Gasteyer... WOW. what a voice! SEAUX powerful. the entire production is quite a treat, save the writing at the end. it's pretty weak. almost as if someone checked their watch and said "this one's goin a little long - let's just cut to the chase." it just feels as if the average scene stands somewhere around 5-8 minutes and suddenly they're down to 2-3 minutes. good costumes - goo singing - some of the songs are hokey, but catchy...... and broadway should have figured out a way to hide strings by now on stage... i think it's time for me to believe for a moment that they're actually flying and not being held up by strings... just my two cents. i mean - it looks like we're dealing with the original Peter Pan technology here.

after that - we went to the Marshall Field's because it's Field Days where you can save a bunch of money - but we didnt buy anything. this Marshall Field's takes up and ENTIRE CITY BLOCK and is about 9 stories of shopping. ho-ly crap. i just go to the 2nd floor, look around a leave. and occasionally i'll walk by the Dolce section and drool a little - then walk away with my tail between my legs because i will NEVER afford that.

went to millennium park - then to Giordano's for pizza. i wanted to take him there - but where was one? oh - we stumbled upon one after leaving millennium park. once again - things falling into our laps. once we left there, i really wanted to find a Garretts popcorn stand for him - but i couldn't remember where they were. sure enough - we stumble across one - and get some caramel corn. mmmmm.....

sunday we went to brunch at Lake Park Bistro with Maren and Krista - then went to 6flags for fright fest - we then came back home [because it was FREEZING] and watched more strangers with candy. monday was just waking up, watching strangers, gettin lunch at Brew City BBQ [the cajun place here was closed!!!] and then bringing matt to the airport. GOOD WEEKEND!

thanks matt - it was great to see you again and hang with you like old times. right on.

and i'll probably update again later with a much different vibe. today has not been good so far...
