Well this summer has been awesome, but it came to a sudden halt on Saturday night/Sunday Morning.
I will honor you with my tale.
It was a Saturday morning like most. I had just awoken from my slumber after a long night of partying. (I still want money for that shit, I only got a total of $5 for $70 worth of beer + $10 commission for my contact.)I didnt really clean up, i was planning to after our trip the next day, because i didnt have time in the morning.
Shawn Gibbs and I were headed to the beach! Shawn and I's parents were already there, hence the party at my crib the night before. I had packed everything I needed or so I thought. So the trip to the beach was delightful. But i realized I had forgotten my Insulin for my diabetes. I was sure that i had packed it, mostly because it is vital to my existance. It turns out that i set it next to my bookbag before we left, but i had not put it inside.
I was not too worried. I knew my bloodsugar would get high and i would have to pee a lot before i got home. I told my parents whom confirmed that there was not much i could do and accidents happen. We met up with some ppl on the beach, had a bbq at our parents campsite and returned home.
At this point my body was making me pee every 10 seconds trying to get the sugar out of my system. Thats what insulin does, it digests sugar, but my body dosnt produce any so i have to inject it. I started to feel kind of sick when we hit the newark area on our way home.
As soon as i got out of the car i threw up, but i attributed it to the undercooked burger that i had earlier. So i gave myself my insulin, and i was too tired to clean up from the party so i went to bed with the intention of cleaning up in the morning.
I woke up the next morning and felt horrible. I could not walk 5 feet without throwing up. I was extremly dehydrated, but i couldnt keep water or anything down. I was afraid to give myself medicine because my blood sugar could have gone too low without being able to keep any food down.
After a while i just decided to call my parents and see what to do, the called the ambulance to pick me up. BEfore the ambulance picked me up, i had realized that i had not cleaned up from the party. I proceed to call gibbs and leave a message on his phone, i didnt call shawn because i knew he was at work. I asked gibbs to help me out, but it turns out he left his phone somewhere and didnt get the message.
Anyway i was taken to the emergency room at Wilmington Hospital. I dont really remember alot because i was going into shock and then they gave me a sedative. Many IV's, needles, and blood tests later i was in the Intensive Care section of the hospital.
I couldnt eat or drink anything for one day. I could eat ice chips, they didnt want me to throw anything up. So i got all my nutrients via IV. The had to draw blood out of my arm every 4 hours for 3 days, my arm looks like i am a hardcore heroine addict. OH well.
I got in a lot of trouble because of the party, grounded for two weeks, but i guess the party was worth it.
I was diagnosed with Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Its a pretty serious side thing from diabetes. The mortality rate is 10% and a lot of people end up in como. I am pretty lucky i called my parents an hour or two before i was unable too.
Basically the Ph level of my body turned to acidic, and my blood had so many toxins in that my body just started to shut down. Supposedly there is a lot of fluid in the brain too.
So after three days of being in Intesive Care, i am back in action. The doctors said that somthing like that is going to happen every once in a great while so i cant reall sweat it, but its still a really big eye opener.
So most of you probobly do not care to hear my bitching, but this was a big thing and the sickest ive ever been in my life. And i guess its just a reminder to take care of your bodies, because you are not invincable.
