Gabriel Gray (Halfnhalf)

Ever come across the theory that Sylar and Gabriel are completely seperate personalities? Yeah, so did we. ('We' here denotes Pyth and myself, who are the trenchcoat and the sweatervest respectively.) We took the concept as an invitation for CRACK (hilarious), SLASH (disturbing) and WIN (copious).

...If that's what you're into.
In our crazy little AU-verse, which owes much of its existence to this fic, Gabriel Gray was for a long time a chronically bored and self-disgruntledly apathetic guy who only missed out on getting a prize for spinelessness because he couldn't quite work up the nerve to enter any competitions for it. He had the occasional feeling that he wasn't the only one in that head of his, but no-one actually told him to burn anything or shoot the president and thus this was simply a perfectly normal part of growing up. (Uh... it is perfectly normal, right? >.>) That on top of the whole I Was Meant To Be More thing, but crucially lacking in drive.

So you can imagine the impact that Chandra's little theories had. It was like: BOOM! You have to understand just how much this meant to him. It was worth more than anything in his life had been up till that point. Firstly, there was Chandra, who was like the sorely needed father-figure, who was someone that listened to him, who was someone that accepted him, who was someone that wanted to see more in him than a mundane little watchmaker. Then there was the possibility of powers, not so much for their own sake but as something that would make him stand out like a beacon, worthwhile, special. (The word is overused, I'll admit, but it does fit him so very well.) (So does 'twink', but we'll gloss over that.)

Things went to pot pretty damn quick. (Or started going right, of course, depending on your point of view.)
And then came the day of rejection, and suddenly a guy who's been living his life with the emotion meter dialled right down is spitting teeth. If there's anything that's going to bring out a murderous alternate personality, it's the sudden gut-pummeling fury of betrayal and the wrenching lividity of everything you hoped for being callously smashed in front of your eyes and the -- knowledge is the wrong word, it's not conscious, but the understanding that YOU WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET THAT CHANCE BACK.

*ahem* Yes.

Anyway.

Sylar turned up. He got a name and everything. But it was Gabriel who killed Brian Davis. ...Further homicide, however, fell to Sylar, after an unwelcome case of cold feet (no pun intended) in the kitchen of the cryokinetic David Berman. Following Bermanbrain came the tender head of one Anna Reeve (no, not the dead one -- not at first, anyway). After which I am given to understand there will be porn.
