Jack and Dean Short Story 1/1

Sep 07, 2012 20:11

Dean's answer to the zombie question inspired this. I wrote this up at the spur of the moment so I'm sorry if it sucks. Maybe I'll go back and edit it...
Rating: K+
Fandom: OMFG! It's Jack And Dean; Jack and Dean
Genre: Friendship, Angst, General, Drama, Randomness
Disclaimer: I don't own Jack and Dean...duh...
Notes: As I said above, I'm sorry if this sucks and if there's too much OOC-ness. Kinda requires some imagination since I don't really specify anything. Hopefully it's somewhat enjoyable...? I need a title. What shall I call this? Critiques are welcome, but please be gentle. I am very sensitive...
My thoughts are everywhere. Legio!

Jack had been acting differently. Dean should’ve picked up on it sooner, but he assumed it was nerves. Their small group had just narrowly escaped another attack two days earlier. They were now cleaning up their small area and heading to a new and hopefully safer location.

Dean was throwing supplies into the RV when he suddenly heard shouting. He ran out of the RV and saw Jack being confronted by the others in the group.

“What’s going on?” Dean pushed his way through.

Bing looked at Dean. “Jack’s been bitten.”

“I’m fine. It was just a scratch!” Jack replied with desperation in his voice.

Dean swallowed and motioned for Jack to show him where the mark was. Jack looked down and squeezed his eyes shut before rolling up his sleeve with a shaking hand. Dean wanted to look away and pretend he hadn’t seen anything, but there it was. A bite mark stood out clearly on Jack’s arm and it was oozing.

“How,” Dean cleared his throat. “It was during the attack, wasn’t it?”

Jack avoided everyone’s eyes.

Dean turned around sharply and the group moved away, clearing a small path. Dean walked over to one of the bags on the ground and pulled out a small pistol. Jack’s eyes clouded over with sadness and he knew what had to be done.

“Leave,” Dean ordered at the others. “You’re in charge now, Bing.”

Bing’s eyes opened wide before he slowly nodded. “You’ll be catching up with us later?”

Dean gave a curt nod. Each member of the small group said their goodbyes to Jack and gave looks of reassurance to Dean. Jack and Dean stood in silence as the vehicles were quickly packed. One by one, the group left the campsite, only leaving a car for Dean.

Looking up at Jack, Dean motioned to his friend to follow him. Jack trudged behind Dean and they walked into the woods. The two didn’t say anything to each other and tension was thick in the air.

“I’m sorry,” Jack broke the silence. “It felt and looked like nothing, but when I woke up this morning-“

Dean cut him off with a wave of his hand and Jack shut his mouth tightly. Eventually, the two reached a small clearing. They gave each other a warm hug and stepped back.

“Well, I’ll see you later, Dean.” Jack tried to smile. “Balls deep,” he said softly.

Dean gave a small, sad laugh. “Balls deep.”

The two friends stood in silence. Suddenly, Jack fell to the ground and stared coughing roughly. Dean closed his eyes and waited. The coughing soon subsided and Dean heard a rustling. The brunet reluctantly opened his eyes and saw the lifeless version of his best friend though his tears. Jack’s eyes stared coldly into Dean’s and the blond stumbled toward his friend.
“I’m so sorry, Jack,” Dean whispered. Breathing out, Dean slowly lifted the gun and pulled the trigger.
