The next day, Mari, the lovely CouchSurfing girl I had met the weekend before, and I left for a 3 day trip to Buzios, a lovely peninsula about 2h north of Rio de Janeiro.
A fishermen village until the 1960s, Buzios was 'discovered' by Brigitte Bardot in the 1960s and has been a fashionable upscale vacation spot since.
the hotel
Buzios is famous for its heavenly beaches, where we spent most of the daytime... kicking back, playing frescobal (beach tennis?) and relaxing.
The second day we took a 'boat taxi' to praia de Joao Fernandes, a more remote beach on the east of the peninsula.
doing what I do
At night we'd head downtown for dinner and a stroll along bay and the village's cobblestone streets, which are full of nice shops and restaurants.
capoeira
After catching a screening of The Black Dahlia in a local theater one night,
I took advantage of the shops to buy a new messenger bag and a new copy of my beloved Lonely Planet´s 'South America on a shoestring' guide,
both of which I've had to miss since getting robbed in Lapa.
The last night we walked around downtown and decided to grab some beers at the dodgiest looking pub we could find, where we boozed up with the local fisherman crowd, rather than paying the 90 reais (40USD) cover fee for one of the famous discos.
The surroundings, the company and the hotel being as lovely as they all were, made these 3 days to a very nice trip, which I won´t forget anytime soon.
