Wow guys, we made it. As I sit here thinking I have to go to school tomorrow, I offer a toast (of sorts) to our high school careers:
To handball: may never our shirts, spirits, memories or desires fade.
To success through determination and rigor: may classes like Humanities and Calculus leave lasting impressions academically, strong wills for the future, and a few tears in remembrance of good times.
To laughter together and crying alone: may both help us learn more from life.
To car crashes, prank calls, stays in hotels, run-ins with the law, being 18, not being 18, and anything else you like: may each of our memories fade as time passes or be memorialized and treasured forever.
To family: our foundation, there is not enough space to describe the love for you, yet the unequivocal desire to be my own separate entity.
To friends: Each of you has left your distinct mark upon me as our four years together have passed. I thank each one of you for shaping the lives of myself and others in your own unique way. To those of you who I spend time with this summer, I hope we share many more memorable experiences before we part ways in the fall. To those I won't see, whether it be my choice or not, I wish you nothing but the best, I truly do. Whether or not I like you or consider you a friend or venerable acquainance, I hope you achieve your goals and aspirations. I will see you in ten years at the reunion, and I hope you have achieved more than me so that I will continue to strive to be the best.
If there is one thing I might stress, it would be to enjoy living life. As someone who was down at his lowest low, and would not be here today if certain circumstances were different, I say to live life for you. Love yourself before you allow others to. I came home from the grad party, and looked out at the sunrise through trees, houses, and power lines, and marveled at the beauty we are all privelaged to witness everyday. Our world has so much to offer; we have only to put our minds to whatever we choose to. A very wise man once told me to play every game like it was my last before he broke his leg and was sidelined for the rest of the season (oh sweet irony, <3 kyle). Find something beautiful each day; have a moment of clarity or recall a fond memory. Remember each day why life is worth living the next.
