First thank you everyone that gave me suggestions on games, but I don't think I could venture away from the sims and anything related to it, lol. I will instead be going to go get Life Stories. I have played Castaways (actually still have the CD, but I have a child that likes to scratch things up), I have played this but I lost the CD and I liked

You can definitely put defaults and hair into your Stories games.

Skintone defaults: The ones that I tried and that work are my Maxis match skintones, Pooklet's Compulsion, Rensim defaults, the edits of Louis skintones by Lin (on MTS) and some others I can't remember right now. I think you just need to stick to the independent defaults rather than dependent ones (ie. not the original Louis defaults and not HP's Idolatry, etc). Keep in mind that you can only use normal S1 - S4 defaults as there are no supernaturals.

Eyes: I've used Phobia's eye defaults and I think Eyelove. There should be no problem with eyes. Same things as with skintones - no alien or other supernaturals.

Hair: As long as it has it's own mesh, it should work.

Makeup: Custom makeup should work. Basegame defaults work but I don't think any of the OFB defaults work so just be careful what set you install. I used the defaults of Bruno's makeup from MTS and it worked.

Clothes: If it has it's own mesh, it should work. Maxis recolours are a bit hit-and-miss. They look weird in CAS or when buying outfits but actually look alright in the game. I downloaded Brunon's Petit Fours (or however it's spelled) undies which use a Maxis basegame mesh and they looked black when selecting them but looked good during gameplay.

Furniture: No idea. Never tried it. I would hazzard a guess that stuff with it's own mesh will work as will some recolours but you have to choose items that are in the Stories game.

Hacks: I used the NL no censor blur and the no red pause line hack without problems. The Insimenator object version will kill Story Mode and give you unachievable goals, but people swear that the pie menu version did not break anything during Story Mode. I don't use it even in my full game so have no real idea about this. I also used Shaklin's clothing rack from the Graveyard during Story Mode and it works fine. Not sure about other hacks or hacked objects.
