title: chasing rainbows
rating: g - happy, fluffy g.
characters/pairings: Arashi. Blink and you'll miss it one sided MatsuJun->Aiba.
warnings: I cannot even begin to say.
length: 520 odd words

summary: pirates!au. Sometimes, it's all about the journey.

Nino comes onto deck after a furious round of shouting at MatsuJun over the giant spread out maps of where they should be going and how long it should take them, resulting in nothing more than a headache and a pouty, sulking MatsuJun. Nino doesn't consider it all time wasted but it's close enough.

Ohno's standing at the helm, looking out to nowhere in particular, and Nino can hear splashing and shrieking giggles that probably means Aiba has found yet another possibly lethal ocean animal and befriended it.

"I hate the world," Nino says conversationally. "One day, I'll crush all the infidels beneath my foot."

Ohno doesn't even blink. "We should go that way," he says instead, pointing to - from what Nino can tell - a random spot on the horizon.

"We should throw MatsuJun overboard and feed him to the sharks," Nino snipes in return.

"Aiba likes him too much," Ohno says peaceably. "The sharks wouldn't touch him."

Nino grumbles. "And his eyebrows would spear them anyway, but that doesn't mean I can't try."

With supreme serenity of one that is blissfully unaware, Ohno ignores him. "We should go that way."

"Oh? What's over there, Leader?" Sho asks, peering over Ohno's head, having softly padded up behind them. He has a still pouting but considerably calmer MatsuJun tightly by the hand, who makes a soft grumpy noise of inquiry also.

"Where we need to go," Ohno says, like it's the most obvious thing in the world. He turns to give them all a content smile.

"Oh, of course," Nino mutters beneath his breath, but exchanges a wry look with MatsuJun.

MatsuJun arches an exceptionally pointed eyebrow in return and shrugs his shoulders. He's half curled into Sho's shorter form, half trying to lean over the railings to get closer to where ever Ohno pointed to.

"Is it safe?" the sole voice of reason interjects. Sho's mouth tilts at the corners; he thinks it's as good a way as any to decide, given there will be less bloodshed - probably.

Ohno only smiles even brighter. "It's going to be good weather," he declares like there's not a chance of anything else. The sea is a glorious shade of greenblue, capped in white, and the wind is brisk without being overly strong. "I wonder what we'll have for dinner tonight."

And right on cue, there's the loud thump of Aiba resting his elbows on the deck, having shimmied up the rope ladder from where he was playing with all sorts of strange and unsavory beasties.

"Hey guys!" Aiba hollers cheerfully, ignoring the mounting dread on Nino's face, the way MatsuJun is torn between blanching and ridiculously charmed; the sun highlights the bedraggled wet mess of Aiba's hair. "You'll never guess what I just found!"

Behind him, a lone tentacle - as thick around as a man's waist - waves in the air.

"A kraken!" Aiba exclaims, grinning maniacally. "He followed me home. Can we keep him?"

Ohno, halfway to the galley already, ignores the rising babble and screaming behind him. It was going to be good weather today indeed.
