I wish I could sing...

I just watched "The Light in the Piazza" on PBS. I had actually gotten the chance to see "Piazza" when my mother and I visited my aunt in NYC...it was the first show I got to see on Broadway. It was certainly an experience, and was very exciting, especially when I realized that Victoria Clarke, who won the Tony, was still playing Margaret Johnson (it's okay that you have no clue who I'm talking about, I don't think any of my friends do).

So tonight there was a live broadcast of the show, and it had the exact same cast I saw it with. It was so much fun to watch it again. In the last 2 years, I've rediscovered my love for musicals (something my mom has passed on to me). Seeing "West Side Story" live when I was 12 is what started it for me. After seeing The Lion King and Chicago in London, Wicked on tour, and The Light in the Piazza on Broadway, I am obessed once more.

I used to think it was ironic that I loved musicals, yet I couldn't sing. But now I think that it's probably the reason why. I can sing along with the soundtrack and pretend I'm actually singing on key.

By the way, has anyone heard of "Sweeney Todd"? Tim Burton is directing a movie version of it, with Johnny Depp likely starring. Sweeney Todd is, without a doubt, the freakest musical ever.

It's about a barber that cuts people's throats, and then Mrs. Lovett backs the bodies into pies.

And you though musicals were happy and boring.
