Snow and ice and snow and rain and gray, gray skies are all we have had for a week and counting. Last Friday we drove to Raleigh to see my family and to avoid the potentially nasty ice storm. We had already done our storm-preparedness grocery shopping and were all but ready to build an igloo. Mom called late on Friday and made an enticing case for a visit, but traveling right before a snow storm was not the best decision we could have made. The snow came early and the trip took four hours instead of two and a half. We stressed and argued almost the entire way, and J took over driving two hours in. The trip was worth it in the end - we got some quality time, J got a lot of work done, and the storm reached Raleigh so we didn't miss out on the snow. Mirella made the trip with us and when she got used to being in a strange house, her curiosity kicked in. We thoroughly inspected the back porch and she was quickly satisfied with the conditions. Other than travel the week has been slow and quiet. That's the way of things for the unemployed.
