I take it that my daughter, Elle Bishop, lives here? I'd like an update on her status, please.
[The way he says "please"? It does not sound like a request.]
[private to Howie, for when he returns - strikes readable]
Sgt. Howie,
You are my daughter's warden, I presume? I'd like to discuss methods of handling her and certain aspects of her file.
First of all, you need to understand that Elle needs a very strong hand. Any leniency you show her she'll take as a sign of weakness, and she'll exploit it. You'll have to push her very hard if you want her to be as good as she can be. She's also demanding and attention-seeking, and if you let her, she'll take up all your time with endless, selfish pleas for affection. I strongly advise not showing her any unless she's truly earned it, or she'll get the impression that she doesn't need to do her best work and she'll let both you and herself down.
I want you to understand that everything I've done, I've done for Elle's own good. Someone with her kind of power cannot possibly be allowed freedom unless she is in perfect control of her ability at all times. And I must say that as a result of her training, she is very competent with her ability if not with anything else.
I know my daughter better than anyone, Sgt. Howie, and I urge you to apply what I've said in your interactions with her. It's in your best interest and in hers.
