Because music is more fun than homework: I uploaded some Speechwriters LLC for dontyouwaitup* last night and thought I should share with you guys, too, because they are GREAT. The two main guys in the band graduated from my college a few years back, so I got to hear them live a couple years ago -- and seriously, they rock. Acoustic guitar and pretty damned fantastic lyrics -- except for the occasional head-hurting grammatical error, because come on, with the level of education I know for a fact that these guys got, they should know better. But anyway, that's beside the point, which is, listen listen listen!

*Whose format I totally stole, because it is awesome.

Speechwriters LLC: A Totally Random Mix of What I Have on My iTunes

Clones
fucking up the timing 'cause we never got the rhyming
I've been stealing all my riffs from the Stones
the world'll start burning when the tables stop turning
I can feel it in the back of my bones

Beach Song
woke up this morning it was 1969
and I was tangled up like Christmas lights
around an old girlfriend of mine

Blood on the Frets
(aka the most played song in my iTunes library)
just another West Side Story
a California kid out to drink himself to glorious excess tonight
I'm dressed to fight, and maybe get my shit together if it sets just right

Annie Dan
and if I knew more about fabric I'd be better to describe your dress
I just remember it was blue and it made you stand out from the rest

Classic Heartbreaking Bitches
there were walks in the park, there were kisses in the dark,
and proverbial sparks, that always precede failure
and your heart did fly, and your soul was telling lies,
and you never asked why, this couldn’t all last, forever

Maestro's Rocketship
and have you ever seen a maestro furiously plucking at his strings
as to the woman of his dreams, he sings
or have you rather seen the lights aglow, with his head bent low and his song real slow
as he sings of his affliction, from Cupid’s bow

Echolocation
new town, your feet hit the ground and you're running
look down, there's light all around and it's humming
and all of your gear, it still isn't here but it's coming

Sweet Verity
well I courted her for all of my life
she shimmered from a distance when the lighting was right

Neo
spitting out rhyme after rhyme
trying to solve this crime
it's perpetrated against humanity by this deity
this supernatural entity that supposedly resides inside of me

Xcom
I know this girl she looked good in her clothes
she'd get me drunk, take me home after shows
and we'd go through the moves like pros
we'd drive around in the Hollywood hills
we'd go to clubs, get addicted to pills
and we'd dance till the lights came up

Worksong
when you're in Vegas with the clock stopped
drunk off the body shots
and trying to get the top off a beautiful girl

The Ballad of Johnny Lo
Johnny Lo, he was an Anchorage Joe, and he'd been going out to school in L.A.
Peggy Sue, she was a college kid too, and she had driven out from Chesapeake Bay
and they were young in love, they fell the day they met
and things with them were as good as things get

Harmony
last night as I lay asleep in bed
a fairytale came to my head
about a boy, whose soul was underfed

Hostage
the night before the morning after
is always darker than it seems

Classic Heartbreaking Bitches
[a repeat, I realize, but they're two different versions]

Spincycle
told myself I wouldn't say a word
wouldn't lose my head over the things I'd heard
take it like a man and get along
make like I don't notice everything's gone wrong

Dear Liz
but I need to start making money so I can have money
so I can spend money on things like girls and music and hash and bread
so I can eat daily and not drop dead

Saul's Song
well I still remember what you said to me
well you told me that you thought I was destiny
well you called me on the phone and I fell in love
well you told me that the world would soon be ours
