sometimes i can't find my way back again

Last night one of my friends and I cooked dinner: Kartoffelknödel (like a ball of potato chopped up into really little pieces) with mushroom sauce and a can of collard greens I'd brought from home. And it was delicious. We had a little mushroom sauce left over, maybe enough for one more serving.

ME: (scraping the bottom of the pot) Is there any reason to keep the rest of this?
MY FRIEND: No, I don't think so.
ME: (continuing to scrap the bottom of the pot) I . . . don't think I want to throw this away.
MY FRIEND: Good. I was reconsidering, too.

And so tonight we are cooking the leftover mushroom sauce with rice, an onion and a carrot, because this is what we have in our respective pantries. We could technically afford more food, but we are trying to spend as little money as possible before the start of the Semesterferien (semester break) and lots of expensive traveling. And so it is that we are scraping the bottom of the patheticness barrel.
