The Olympics

Well, here it is once again - the most overrated sporting event of the next two years (only this time in it's summer form). Let's get all hyped up about a bunch of 'sports' (more on that below) that one gives a damn about at any other point in time due to national pride. Because, after all, if America can't win the gold in synchonized swimming or some other bullshit like that, then it's the end of the world....at least until equestrian trotting.

And seriously, some of these events are sports? How is a horse trotting about in a square a sport? They aren't running, jumping, or really doing anything. They're freakin' walking. Whoop-dee-fucking-doo! And ballroom dancing? If it can be found on PBS, then it probably isn't a sport. Here's a tip - if it doesn't involve contact or defense of some sort, it isn't a sport.

Now to the premise of this event - world unity. If it was really about that, then why won't the powers that preside over the Olympics let the athletes from France wear 'For a better world' pins? Isn't that what the Olympics is about? Oh, wait - it is just like everything else and is only about marketing people/products and selling as much crap as you can.

Damn, I hate turning on ESPN during these two weeks.

olympics, society, sports
