Yesterday you likely found an empty grocery bag at your door. This year's "Scouting for Food" drive began yesterday. Empty Food Drive Bags were distributed in the area yesterday and local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will be collecting the hopefully filled bags next Saturday. Please be generous. More families then ever are in need.
If you do not wish to contribute to the Scouts for whatever reason, remember that none of this goes TO the Scouts; they are simply the collection mechanism that brings much of the food that the local food banks collect over the course of an entire YEAR. If you would rather you can always fill a bag on your own and bring it to your local food bank yourself. How it gets there doesn't matter... what matters is that it gets there. But I can tell you from experience that from the littlest Cub Scout to the biggest Boy Scouts they are all so happy to see a filled bag for them to pick up. It is very sad when not one house on the street has left a bag for them to collect.
Over 60% of the years worth of food is collected in this one drive by the Boy Scouts. Last year just a few weeks after this HUGE food drive our local food bank was depleted because the need was so great in our area. I am sure it is the same in all areas of the country. Please don't let your feelings about the policies of the organization keep the Scouts from helping their community. Help the Scouts do a good turn by filling up the bag(s) and leaving them for the Scouts to pick up next Saturday morning.
You can find out more about Scouting for Food here:
http://www.boyscouts-ncac.org/council-committees/activities-civic-service/good-turn-for-america/scouting-for-food-sff/24378 Please note that the dates given in the video are from last year. Dates for the "Scouting for Food" dive may be different in your area of the country, but should be around the late October to mid November time frame. You can check your area Boy Scouts of America Council to find out when it will happen in your town. And if you do not get a bag dropped off in your neighborhood, you can contact the local Scout Troop to get your neighborhood added to the rout. I'm sure they would be happy to help.
Thank you for your support in the National Food Drive.
