If you're a Spider-Man fan, you have the obligation to read ASM #680 and this one,
Amazing Spider-Man #681, click the link to download.
Oh, yeah!
Peter made Johnny Storm give him a ride in one of the Fantastic Four's ship to Apogee I, a space station from Horizon, because Jameson's son - John - was there, and something was wrong. They got there thinking things would be easy, just to find John hiding from the crew, that turned into something like space zombies after Doctor Octopus' octobots took a hold of their brains.
In the meantime, we learned Octopus is working with Mysterio, and he's changed physically a lot since the last time we saw him in ASM. He's barely human now, and the only thing that resembles old Octopus on him now are the mechanical arms. Other than that, he's really changed. That's one thing Peter notices when he sees him, but we'll get there.
Now, Spider-Man's regular webs won't work in space, they need gravity. And Human Torch can't just flame on and do things because he'll burn all oxygen, and kill them all. They try to escape using Johnny's ship, that explodes when they get closer. They try to run to another ship, that also explodes. This leads to an old couple bickering between Johnny and Peter.
They use Johnny's phone to call Horizon, make a video call and tell them to cut the oxygen in the station, to make the zombie!crew pass out. Not long after that, Mysterio and Octopus realize something's wrong, and the moment Octopus realizes it's Spider-Man, he calls the station to yell at him and announce like a good super villain that he's going to die.
The catch here is how Peter reacts.
The first thing he asks is how Octopus is doing, because of how he looks. He's worried, and feels sorry for the man, who turns down his pity.
Than, he remember he has the magnetic webs with him.
While Johnny's helping him fix a tape around his wrists to avoid his oxygen escapes, they have a heart-to-heart almost talk, and Peter comes up with the "no one dies today". Do you remember that? The magnetic webs that block radio signs and the "No one dies!"? I do.
The new uniform that will come up in a few issues, the whole no one dies, it reminds me of that arc no so long ago. And Octopus is sick, I don't think Peter will end a dying man's life to save Earth, knowing him, I bet he'll try to find a way to help the man. Octopus says he has only a few weeks to live, so who knows?
The issue ends with everyone alive, indeed, on a beach during Spring Break, because Johnny wanted to.
What I like about it: everything.
This series gets better and better for me. I like the no Mary Jane romance, and the brief but cheerful team-ups we have. Johnny Storm and Peter Parker's dynamics are great, they bicker but they understand each other. I wouldn't mind having more Human-Torch around.
Just like I wouldn't mind more Deadpool and Daredevil. But for the last one we'll have to wait for Avenging Spider-Man, I guess.
