compartmentalizing.

Its been a calm night. I'm super bored and listening to the Mule Variations album by Tom Waits. I forgot how great he was at songcrafting and vocal range...how he can jump from the cookie monster to emotional, vocal butter from one track to the next is just...unrivaled in music, really. And how his lyrics are so fucking weird, like you're conversing with a streetside prophet in some hobocamp. How on earth did I ever pass up his last album? I remember having it on a wishlist for a while and then just forgeting about it. I need it soon. Tom Waits, man. That motherfucker is crazy great.

Speaking of music, I typically write my predictable top ten list this time of year, and I tend to elicit lynchmobs with my choices if I remember correctly. I think someone threatened to knife me for putting Weezer's Green Album up several years back because they thought it was just trash compared to their previous efforts. So here goes, and I think you probably could have written this for me if you've read this journal for the past year...

TOP TEN

10. Rememberese EP, The Stills (on the strength of "Killer Bees" alone)
9. Black Lines to Battelefields EP, Acceptance
8. Long Gone Before Daylight, The Cardigans
7. Give Up, The Postal Service
6. Black Cherry, Goldfrapp
5. Room on Fire, The Strokes
4. Coral Fang, The Distillers
3. Keep On Your Mean Side, The Kills
2. Fever to Tell, Yeah Yeah Yeahs
1. Logic Will Break Your Heart, The Stills

That's that.
