Panic Attack Incoming....

We're going to temple tonight. I don't anticipate that I'll see too many people that I grew up with, but everyone will want to know what my parents' oldest daughter is doing with herself lately. Which reminds me of Thanksgiving, which is FULL of people I really don't want to see. People who would (not) joke about me failing out of school, about ( Read more... )

I have the same exact dilemma. I hate this season because I don't know what to tell people. Hi, I'm 28 years old, I still live with my parents, I still work on the home farm, I have a very part time job (think 5 evenings a month) and I travel some. It's pathetic and I can just see peoples thought processes when I tell them what I've been up to. "Oh, you know, same old, same old." It's so frustrating. I guess I find it comforting that I'm not the only one. Not that I'd wish it on anyone, but you know what I mean.

No, I can certainly sympathize. It's frustrating, because I wish the problem was just being embarrassed by what people think, but it's me, too. I want my own place, I want a job, I want a lot of things, and I'm just...stuck.

Self-pity aside, you live on a farm?

I want all of those things too. I think that's why I enjoy travel so much. It's literally the only time I get to be independent. While I live here, I'm governed by the rules of the house, which I totally understand why that is.

I do! We raise sweet corn, hay, wheat, straw, and red kidney beans. I own the acre and a half of raspberries and it's basically my sole income. We also have the horses!

I totally agree with everything here.

Wow. That's actually really cool. I'm sorry if this sounds callous (in case I knew and inevitably forgot), but where do you live, exactly? Nowhere near me, I can tell.

It doesn't sound callous at all. I'm in a suburb of Rochester, NY.
