NaNoWriMo Day 1

Not going so well. I have a story idea in mind (a short story I wrote earlier this year, just revamped into a novel), but I have no idea how to start. I'd like to start retyping the entire thing, a la Finding Forester, but I'm worried that it's considered cheating by NaNo rules. -.-

Is anyone else doing a NaNo journal for this year's submissions? I'd love to take a look. I'm briefly considering making one of my own, if anyone would like to read it.
